Money, Money, Money...Money!

-          In this part of your package, we will tell you exactly what the currency is in the place(s) where you will be going, as well as the current exchange rate. If you wish to know the exchange rate at the exact time of departure, check online.

-         Be sure to plan a budget of how much cash you will want when you get to your arrival. Remember to plan for everything that is not included in your trip’s package, including local transportation, meals (and drinks!), as well as incidentals like the sunscreen lotion you swore you brought but forgot, etc.

-         Usually the conversion rate at the airport is not great for exchanging your dollars, but it is often worse at hotels (if they even offer this convenience). We recommend you exchange some money at the airport and then find a bank with a better exchange rate, later, to exchange the rest of the dollars you want to exchange for your trip.

-         Most places in most countries accept Visa; this is the most internationally-accepted credit card. After that comes American Express. You will find it hard to use a Discover card in many places abroad. If you are in a developing country, the general rule is: if they have air conditioning, then they accept a credit card. Interestingly, the same rule applies for haggling. You can usually haggle/barter in places that don’t have air conditioning.

-         Traveler’s Checks/Cheques can be very useful to bring in some places and absolutely useless in others. We will advise you on this matter depending upon where you are traveling to.

-         We HIGHLY recommend looking at Travelex’s website or going to one of their stores.
They can send you foreign currency in advance, issue traveler’s cheques, and much much more.
